Spread the love

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and love is in the air. Many people are proposing to their partners on the most loving day of the year. Are you also planning to propose to your partner, but you don’t know how? Then read this blog for great proposal ideas!

Planning is key

You usually only make a marriage proposal once in your life. In order to make it as special as possible, it is important to think carefully about how you want to approach the proposal.

Are you going to propose, for example, in private, outside in the nature or surrounded by loved ones? In this blog we will give you some examples of how you could go about it.

Does your partner like romantic gestures?

Then a surprise proposal is a great idea. Make sure your partner is away during the day by asking a friend or family member to keep him or her busy. Then fill the house with candles (preferably electric, or keep a fire extinguisher close by), sprinkle a path of rose petals to the place where you are going  to propose to your partner, fill the house with heart-shaped balloons and put roses everywhere.

Then, dress up and buy a bottle of champagne to celebrate your engagement. Put the ring in a box of chocolates or get on one knee when your partner gets home. Bonus: Ask someone to record everything so you can enjoy it again later.

Is your partner a real sweet tooth?

Then prepare a delicious sweet breakfast for him or her! Think, for example, of sweet, pink cake pops, cupcakes, macarons, petit fours or strawberries with chocolate. Grab a tray and put a glass of juice (or champagne) on it, croissants, your homemade snacks and make it a breakfast in bed.

If you are going to propose with a ring, you can put it in a glass of champagne or around the stem of a rose. Please note: if you plan to hide the ring in a food or drink, make sure that the ring is visible because otherwise your partner may not notice (and you don’t want the ring to be eaten, obviously).

Does your partner like baking? Then you can suggest baking a cake together on Valentine’s Day. Think in advance about what you want to make and buy the ingredients ahead. Baking together can be very romantic. Wait for the right time and propose to your partner. Afterwards, you could celebrate your engagement with a delicious piece of cake!

Does your partner enjoy cooking?

Then plan a delicious meal and start cooking together. Make each other’s favorite meal and plan a four-course dinner. Serve a delicious cocktail, champagne, or take your menu to the local wine store or liquor store and get some advice. Place a rose bouquet on the table and set the table neatly.

Make sure you make the dessert and write with for example with chocolate sauce “do you want to marry me? ” on the plate and add the ring.

Does your partner like nature?

What could possibly be more romantic than getting on one knee while enjoying a delicious meal and enjoying nature? Pack a basket with snacks, drinks, a rug, plates, cutlery and cups (and don’t forget the ring).

Does your partner like to travel?

This year it is not suggested to go abroad, but don’t let that spoil the fun. Your home country probably has beautiful nature reserves where you can walk, cycle and enjoy together. For example, go to a region where you have never been and book an overnight stay. In this way you are still somewhat of a tourist. Take your partner to a special place and make your proposal there.

Is your partner a family person?

Can’t your partner spend even one moment away from the family? Then this is clearly an important part of his or her life. In this case, you could think of involving the family in your proposal. Plan your proposal and ask the family to help. Don’t do this too early in advance so they don’t have to keep it a secret for too long.

This can sometimes be very difficult for some family members and might ruin the surprise. You can involve the family by, for example, giving each of them a sign with letters spelling out “Will you marry me?”. Get them all together and bring your soon-to-be fiancé. When you arrive, they can all line up and turn the signs around.

Ask a photographer to record your proposal

For example , you can plan a romantic photo shoot with your partner and hire a photographer. Propose during the photo shoot and if your partner says yes, your Valentine’s Day shoot will turn into an engagement photo shoot to remember! For example, you can plan a photo shoot in nature or in a studio.

Another idea is to hire a photographer or videographer to record your proposal from a distance. Take your partner to his or her favorite spot and propose here. You could give the recordings to your partner as a gift for your wedding day, or play them at your wedding reception.

Be original

Your proposal is a special moment that you will never want to forget. Therefore, look for something that is special to your partner. Does he or she have a special hobby, interest or place? Then include this in your proposal. For example, you could think of the place where you met or shared your first kiss.

Maybe your partner likes to sail; then make the proposal during a romantic boat trip with a dinner. In any case, put effort into it and think about it carefully. This will show when you propose and your partner will probably appreciate this very much.

Combine several ideas

Who says you should only stick with one activity? After all, it’s Valentine’s Day! Plan a day filled with love and happiness, and do the things you and your partner love. For example, book a weekend trip somewhere in your home country and start the day with a homemade breakfast.

Cook a tasty lunch together, which you could then take with you on a picnic. Find the ideal moment and then propose to your partner. A proposal will be the perfect end to the perfect day (or weekend).

Don’t want to make it too big of deal?

That is also possible. To make it romantic you could hang sweet notes in the house to make your partner happy, order Valentine pastries and eat them together, or order an extensive dinner, set the table nicely, put on your best clothes and create a romantic evening with your proposal to finish with. That way you will never forget this evening.
